Procrastination & Avoidance

The act of procrastinating is highly unproductive and time wasteful. Procrastination places barriers in front of our desires and stops us from achieving meaningful or important tasks. It is present in relationships, careers, financial opportunities, study routines and simple everyday situations.

The main cause of procrastination comes from avoidance. Avoidance is what drives us to act. We are designed to seek pleasure and avoid pain. When we move towards our natural motivation to seek pleasure, we are also moving towards avoiding those tasks that cause us discomfort. This can lead to important tasks building up and in turn create feelings of stress, anxiety, overwhelm and despair.

During our sessions we can help with strategies for creating momentum to combat procrastination and break avoidance patterns. Dealing with procrastination often gives us more time to do the things we enjoy doing, except this time without the guilt of knowing “I should be working on my project” or “I should be cleaning up the garage”.
